Paradigm Shifter: Techniques for Conscious Breakthroughs

Ruminations on esoterica bore me to tears. I am not a typical metaphysician. I hate looking at one's navel, nor do I celebrate it. I am a metaphysical worker only in the sense that I say things, people listen, and then the things I say tend to happen. Period.

By Anya Briggs

Looking down the road now, I see a lot of people celebrating their own metaphysical memory and are awakening to experiences of dreams, happenings, run-ins with others like themselves and so forth, that are fostering in what I like to call the "New Age Meltdown" of reality construct. A rose is not a rose, it is a multiverse. Many things to all people and so forth. All is One. That type of thing. But I digress.

What do we do with it now? Or rather, I should say, what do we do with it IN the now?

Wonderful news awaits those who have arrived at this place and time and imagine themselves ahead of the curve, or should I say, the "reality construct" manifesting itself now, in real time, all over the United States of America and beyond. Others are finding themselves acutely aware of a reality they had heretofore never heard of, had no interest in, but by God they are interested in it now: realizing the fundamental "breakdown" of society vis-a-vis things they hadn't thought about such as clean energy, the future of food, states of awareness, sensitivity to others whereas before they could care less, pollution, overpopulation, supply and demand, permawar economies, the national security state, mind control, secret societies, and yes, even such heretofore exotic, verboten topics such as aliens, angels, the spirit world, psychic ability- nothing is off the table suddenly.

Thanks to the mainstreaming of conspiracies, the Oprahfication of angels, the popularization of the supernatural and occult in films, television, and literature, a sudden sprouting up of groups seemingly out of nowhere devoted to lifting the veil on exploitation of others such as the anti-Scientology group Anonymous, the non-stop 24 hour, 7 day a week melange that is the beautiful monster known as the internet/web universe, not to mention mind-expanding and paradigm-shifting  concepts being addressed such as the increasing-by-the-day interest in the legalization of marijuana, organic food being offered in elementary school cafeterias,  and yoga being offered in every franchised gym in America, water cooler talk has suddenly taken a change for the profound.

What state of consciousness do we find ourselves in when everything we've ever known or thought about ourselves suddenly becomes irrelevant and we have to start again anew, a clean slate? We find ourselves in a state of Now.

"Everything is everything" Lauryn Hill once so famously sang, and indeed, we are suddenly redefining ourselves all the time, playing into space, the grooves in the vinyl constantly re-evaluating  the groove created by the needle melting deeper into the indent with each pass around.

I want to introduce myself. I am a metaphysician. Except I'm not. I am a multitude and yet not. I am the same and yet different. I Am That I Am. We all are. Welcome to the big show.

The editors have graciously asked me to be a guest blogger on this site about the present state of reality in that Awakening spirit we've come to know under many different terms. I will attempt over the next several weeks to discuss with you, the public, what it means to be in that state of reality beyond "The Now".

Call it "What Do We Do Now That We Are Awakened?" Others have chosen the call too. Call them culture jammers, politicos, way-showers, lightworkers, Be-ers and Do-ers, activists, conscious consultants, psychics, freaks, mojo-making enterprisers, and even, yes, guest bloggers. Something is happening. Stereotypes need not apply anymore, for from here on out, in this column, we will call it the "What If: Magnified" instead. The thing itself is the essence of it, all the while paying attention to possibilities and potentialities. All Is One.

What If: Magnified, Part 1: The Courage to Take the Road Less Traveled

What do doe-eyed souls, micromanagers, and court jesters all have in common? The same thing: they all want to be who they want to be because it makes them them. They have identified with themselves for so long as these stereotypes (The Dreamer, The Controller, The Comic), titles they probably inherited in high school, that it makes them stick to the thing itself in that so-called groove far longer than suits their fancy, but they don't know any other way to be. Tough. We are in the Now and we are going to make it happen so that these forlorn people who de-activate their true beings don't have to abide by that any longer. They don't have to be helpless, tough, discouraging, happy, or anything that makes them them from the perspective of identity that's been thrust upon them any more. That time is past. It is the, I shudder to say it, Dawn of a New Age and sugar, that soap don't float any more!

You've got to do what you are meant to do, and if that old programming sits around much longer, it's going to stink up the whole town you live in that you no doubt hate living in in the first place. I am talking about it, and yes I am going there: You can no longer sit in your chair and think "This is it. This is as good as it gets. If it gets any better, I won't want it and then I'll be more miserable than if I am sitting here in this chair reading this, understanding but not comprehending the implications of this message. I send the message to myself, she/he gets it, but I am still sitting here in this chair not comprehending the meaning of what is change. True change. The change of "fate". The change of "destiny". What is this? I am scared to look at it! It's too hard! It makes sense on paper, but as I read it, it's of no consequence to me! How does this affect my destiny? What does it all mean?" Etc.

Well, what does it all mean? What does it mean to you? Is it of value to stop a big oil conglomerate from polluting the ocean or is it an isolated incident, never to have impact on anyone or anything again? You've obviously come here to this site, to this column for a reason, so what is it? What is the thing itself? I leave that answer up to you and you alone, sugarplums. You are all darling deers in the headlights as well as hardened heads of state, each and every one of you. But what does it mean in the larger context of everything?

Douglas MacArthur once said "Last, but by no means least, courage-moral courage, the courage of one's convictions, the courage to see things through. The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle--the roar of the crowd on one side and the voice of your conscience on the other." We are talking about that. The courage to see oneself through to the end, to commit to the struggle of the crowd while at the same time remaining true to oneself. How does that happen? What is that act? When is the day when you finally decide to quit that struggle more importantly, and to realize that the crowd is you, conflicted, staring back in incredulity at what you have done, become, or dared to even think about becoming. More on that later. For now, realize that this is the thing itself that causes change. Nothing else can deny it. You have become the thing itself by sympathizing with it, so choose carefully whom you'd like to reflect.

Be one with in-fighting. Be one with discomfort. Take a long, slow gaze into the underpass that is your subliminal self. What heart is beating there? Who dwells in that space? Just asking that question is enough to propel you forward, either away from or towards that dark tower you know as the Heart. Inside the Heart beats the divine. Once you have slain that dragon, enough is enough and you will be propelled forward again, and still again, breathing consciousness, whole and divine.

I propose no less than a revolution of the mind is taking place currently, and it is always the first place you look to for answers. But that won't get you far if you go cold turkey on matters of the heart and what you care about either. The psychological split that has taken care of business for years in our history will no longer work for the age ahead. Life coaches always say "Try to take some time for yourself every day and do one new thing that scares you." The same is true for investigations of the soul. Nothing really happens on the surface, but inside is a stormy sea or a placid lake, depending on the circumstances. Ask yourself what propels you. Is it fear? Joy? Then break it up into increments. This happened to create this, then this happened and so forth. Break it down further, and then further still. What is the underlying fear or exhilaration of that outcome? Then try it again, with this, then with that. You will then see and absorb the still place that encourages you, compels you, propels you further, and then further still. If you can do this, then congratulations, you have successfully expanded your consciousness.

Now what?
